Extreme Weather

Climate Change is making the weather more EXTREME"

What is extreme weather? Hurricanes, Tornados, Monster Rain and Snow storms, Damaging Winds, Huge Hail

Hurricanes

More Hurricanes, Stronger Hurricanes

Hurricanes

Lots of variation from year to year - but look at the black line - the average.

BE CAREFUL about how you look at the numbers!

If you only look at 10 year period you can make the trend in the numbers be whatevery you want!

For instance look at these correct numbers - looks like the number of hurricanes is decreasing! NOT TRUE!

10 yearsl of Hurricanes

In 2020 there were 30! storms and as of Oct21 2021 there are already 20!

Tornados

Tornados

A 2016 study found that an increasing number of each year's tornadoes are occurring in outbreaks (periods of one to several days with at least six closely spaced EF1+ tornadoes). The study also found that outbreaks themselves are becoming more frequent.

Monster Rain

On October 4, 2021 a series of storms put on the parking brakes over northwestern Italy, unleashing rainfall rates NEVER BEFORE SEEN IN ALL OF EUROPE after over 29 inches (742 mm) of rain fell in just 12 hours.

This amount of rain is hard to understand.

These days "100 year floods" happen every 5 years.

Downpour

Warmer air holds more water!

THE COST!

In 2020, the United States experienced record-smashing 22 weather or climate disasters that each resulted in at least $1 billion in damages, including a record 7 linked to landfalling hurricanes or tropical storms.
